Oral Film Claims for US and EU Launches: A Label Review Map

Short answer: Treat every product name, carton phrase and web claim as a claim candidate. Classify it for the destination market, link it to evidence and approve the final wording before artwork release.

Separate product facts from outcome claims

A carton can describe its format, ingredients and directions without promising a health result. Phrases such as individually packed oral film or mint flavor need accurate product support. A statement about sleep, immunity, energy or absorption requires a different evidence and regulatory review. The same issue applies to a product name or image if it implies a disease treatment or measurable benefit.

For US dietary supplements, FDA distinguishes structure/function claims from disease claims and says qualifying structure/function claims need substantiation, notification and a specific disclaimer. The European Commission’s nutrition and health claims framework uses an EU register and requires claims to be clear, accurate and evidence based. These systems are not interchangeable; a phrase cleared in one market should be rechecked before use in another.

Build a claim register

Review the full customer journey

A label review should include the product name, front panel, Supplement Facts or nutrition information as applicable, instructions, website landing page and distributor copy. A cautious carton cannot repair an unsupported web promise. The claim register gives marketing and regulatory reviewers one record to compare across these materials.

The product’s route and category also matter. A dietary supplement film and a pharmaceutical oral film can involve distinct evidence, manufacturing and approval pathways. A description of rapid disintegration is not proof of faster absorption or an onset time. If the campaign wants a comparative statement, the team should identify the product-specific test and the comparator before writing the sentence.

Buyer questions

Is 'fast dissolving' the same as 'fast acting'?

No. Disintegration describes the film; an onset claim needs product-specific evidence.

Can a US claim be reused unchanged in the EU?

Not automatically. Review the applicable EU claim and conditions of use.

Do images count in claim review?

Yes. Visual context can contribute to the overall impression of a product claim.
